Amazon Kingfisher

The Amazon Kingfisher is a colourful bird found near rivers, lakes, and streams throughout much of Central and South America. It has a greenish body, a large pointed bill, and a white chest, making it well adapted for catching fish. The Amazon Kingfisher usually sits quietly on a branch or other perch near the water, watching for prey before diving into the water to catch fish, insects, and small aquatic animals. It is an excellent swimmer and hunter, and its presence around waterways makes it an important part of the local ecosystem.
